Performance Plus Sport was started in November 2016, by a group of people ambitious and driven to get the best out of young sportspeople. It started by supporting performance tennis players who had potential but lacked support and funding. This was before launching a growth strategy in September 2018 to build a structure of programmes and support across three target areas (community progression, sport advancement, career path) and a variety of sports.

In this time it raised £323,524, delivered 43 separate programmes, creating chances to 895 young people and supported a further 102 individuals with mentorship alongside. Through Covid, PPS reacted by rolling out an Emergency Hardship Fund to support coaches/mentors/athletes within their network. They provided weekly payments to help with essentials and provide digital workshops to keep morale high. It then went further by asking those eligible to ‘give a little back’ by handing out food/drink to homeless people and those in need.

In 2021 The Tim Henman Foundation agreed to link with Performance Plus Sport and form a strategic partnership because of their shared mission and connected charitable objectives. The partnership will enable both parties to increase capacity to reach and support more young people.

Mission

The mission of PPS is to get the best out of young people through sport. We are committed to supporting young sportspeople with the right attitude, creating opportunities for those who wouldn’t have had the chance otherwise. We believe in the power of sport, and the positive impact it can have.

“Those people who put blood, sweat and tears into it because they know it is all or nothing for them become highly motivated and ambitious.”

“I guess some people just don’t get any doors opened for them to begin with. There are people who
unfortunately come from a background or an environment that doesn’t allow them to participate in
any sport or progress themselves”.
